Washing Monkeys

Day 12 of 365

She raced off the bus and was so excited to get into the house. Carrying an extra backpack with a colorful label that read "Child Of the Week". The backpack was full, and she ripped open the zipper and started to pull out the contents. Her mind raced faster than she could speak as she was telling us what was inside. What the backpack contained, and how she is the "child of the week" this week at school. And monkey, and the puzzles, and the books, and the notebook where we have to write all of her and monkey's adventures that they do this week. And, and, and....

Vanessa is "Child of the Week" this week and she couldn't be more excited to share all of that with us. Tonight she wanted to take Monkey to the barn with her and I had to explain that monkey cannot go to the barn because he would get all dirty. So, instead she took him to her room, plopped him on her bed and explained to him that he had to stay put until she come back from the barn. She hugged him and raced off to get on her snow pants and barn coat.

We get to do some special games with her and puzzles that were in the backpack, and in the notebook, we write all of the adventures that she goes on with her monkey, and what she does with her monkey. And then next week, monkey and the notebook and backpack head home with another child in her class. How cool! She also gets a bulletin board in her classroom all to herself this week that she gets to hang pictures of herself and her family on, so we will send those to school. And she also gets to take a show and tell every day this week. She is excited, that is for sure!

At bedtime she snuggled up to Monkey, I so wanted to wash him before she lugged him to bed, but there wasn't enough hours in the day to get the monkey washed and dried before her bedtime. Tomorrow, first thing, monkey goes in the wash. Because, washing monkey takes a long time. :)

Today was also Lailah's actual birthday. So I wanted to wish my very special 8 year old a very special birthday. Happy Birthday Lailah - you are growing so very fast!
